President’s Message Summer 2014

2014 Summer
MWC President’s Message

Where is this Spring/Summer going? We have attended three rallies so far and July is just around the corner.
Since our opening rally at Cardinal Campground in April, we hope you all enjoyed the next rally at the Summit County Fairgrounds in May hosted by the Ray’s and Bisson’s. We were reminded of the Bisson’s 50th anniversary celebration held there several years ago where we danced to the oldies and dressed in 50’s fashion to celebrate this historic moment.
The weather was chilly in April and May, as expected, and heaters were necessary to warm the cool nights. Unfortunately, the little wire that sends a signal to our LP gauge in the coach broke and the gauge and I both thought our tank was full. The tank was empty! Thanks to John Bisson the wire got fixed and they lent us an additional electric heater.
We just returned from Glamarama 2014 in Goshen, Indiana where we joined 567 other coaches there for five days of volunteering and participation. We had about 20 MWC families in attendance and we avoided the train tracks that kept most of us awake during the night last year. There were about 50 display coaches available to view and many appeared to be sold during the rally.
Glamarama 2015 will be held on June 3-7th at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds in Goshen. The GLAMA board is exploring the Allen County Fairgrounds in Lima, Ohio for 2016. A representative of that fairground was in attendance to look over the event in Goshen. This would be the first GLAMA rally held in Ohio. We are supporting this effort.
MWC hosted a welcoming event for members in our reserved shelter on Wednesday evening with snack foods and beverages, and we had our chapter meeting on Thursday night. A finger food potluck was enjoyed by all and our National President Charlie Adkins paid us a visit.
MWC members volunteered many hours in support of this event; from shuttle drivers, 50/50 ticket sellers, crafts, FMCA store, and many more. THANKS to everyone who volunteered their time. Hopefully, we will be rewarded with a division of surplus dollars back to the club based on the number of hours spent.
The balance from Glamarama 2013 was $46,503.03 and the final report on Glamarama 2014 finances will be reported after November, 2014.
I kept busy representing the chapter at the President’s roundtable and also sat in with Wanda Trash at the National Director’s roundtable. Additionally, I represented the chapter at the GLAMA board meeting as the alternate National Director along with Wanda Trash.
Marilyn and I also worked at the Chapter Fair along with Doug Erman and the Chellis’s recruiting new FMCA members to MWC. Our new recruitment brochure was passed out to several interested folks.
MWC will need to elect a temporary delegate to attend the FMCA national meeting in Redmond, Oregon in August. Neither the Trashes nor the Keriks are able to make the trip to Oregon. If you are heading out west this August and willing to represent MWC, please call Wanda or me at 419-332-5420. An individual will be needed to be voted as a temporary delegate at our July meeting.
Planning continues for our 50th anniversary celebration and another meeting with the Michigan Knights was held at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon, OH. Doug Erman continues to spearhead this effort and has volunteered to be in charge of registrations and entertainment. Terrye Kolbe is working with Betty Pryor of the Knights on food, and Marilyn Kerik is working on anniversary t-shirts for the event. John Bisson has agreed to be a co-chair for parking, and Glenn Perkin and I will serve as co-rally masters. More information will be provided as our planning moves forward.
I have contacted Charlie Owens, MWC’s first President, and he and his wife are planning to attend the celebration. They live in Indianapolis, IN currently.
Don’t forget our upcoming July rally, hosted by the Julianos, at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield on July 24-27, 2014!!!!!!!!!

In the meantime, keep healthy and safe!
